Four Lost German Cinema Classics Finally Arrive on Blu-ray in 2023

Four classic German films are coming to Blu-ray for the first time this year. OneGate Media will release them in high definition, marking their debut in this format. The collection spans comedy, musical, and crime genres from the late 1950s and early 1960s. The films include Adieu, Lebewohl, Goodbye (1961), a music-comedy directed by Paul Martin and starring Bibi Johns. Another highlight is Sabine and the 100 Men (1960), a musical by Wilhelm Thiele featuring Sabine Sinjen. Rudolf Schündler’s comedy Café Oriental (1962), starring Elke Sommer, is also part of the lineup. The final title is The Last Shall Be First (1957), a crime drama directed by Rolf Hansen with O. E. Hasse in the lead role.

Each film will appear in 1080p AVC encoding with German audio in mono DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. The packaging consists of standard keep cases with reversible cover art. Notably, the releases will not include subtitles, extras, or an FSK rating logo.

The Blu-rays are scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2023. These restorations bring long-unavailable titles to modern audiences. The discs will offer improved picture and sound quality compared to earlier versions. Fans of German cinema can now experience these classics in a new format.
