Paul Kalkbrenner's sold-out concert transforms Potsdam's historic New Palace
Electronic musician Paul Kalkbrenner will perform in Potsdam this Saturday evening. The concert, set in front of the New Palace in Sanssouci Park, has already sold out. Organisers will close the historic site to visitors from the afternoon onward to prepare for the event. The venue, known as Mopke, sits within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its grand backdrop reflects the architectural style of the Frederician era. Strict rules govern events here to protect the palace and gardens from harm.
Sound levels are preapproved to avoid any risk of damage. This is not the first time the location has hosted large gatherings. In 2007, Die Prinzen and Chris de Burgh played smaller concerts in the same area. Beyond music, the site also welcomes sports competitions and corporate celebrations. Kalkbrenner has experience performing at historic venues. He previously played at Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace. The Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg regularly rents out select locations for cultural and private events, ensuring heritage preservation remains a priority.
The sold-out concert will draw crowds to one of Potsdam’s most iconic landmarks. With preparations underway, the palace will remain closed to the public for the day. The event follows long-standing traditions of hosting major gatherings while safeguarding the site’s historic character.
