Astana climbs 24 spots in global safety rankings while Almaty lags behind

For the first time, Kazakhstan's capital has firmly secured a spot in the top 100 safest cities worldwide, according to the international Numbeo ranking. The metropolis climbed 24 places in just one year—from 105th to 81st—reports our website, citing Baq.kz.

The city's safety index rose from 66.7 to 67.5, placing Astana among urban centers with relatively low crime rates and a stable living environment.

In compiling its rankings, Numbeo considers not only crime statistics but also residents' sense of security, police visibility and performance, and the quality of urban infrastructure—including street lighting, public spaces, and transportation.

Almaty Misses the Top 100

Almaty, by contrast, remains far outside the top 100. The southern capital ranks 195th with a safety index of 46.7—a figure unchanged from last year, yet still insufficient to improve its standing.

Ranking Leaders

The world's safest cities in 2025 are Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Dubai. The ranking includes 263 cities in total, with Astana and Almaty the only two Kazakhstani cities featured.
