Dillon Gabriel's Browns future in doubt as QB battle heats up

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel's future remains uncertain as the offseason continues. On Tuesday, ESPN Cleveland shared a video of him from the Browns' offseason practice that has resulted in further criticism. In the clip, we see Gabriel attempting a pass after the snap. However, the quarterback threw an interception and was picked off on the field. Social media started buzzing with various reactions, trolling and making fun of Gabriel and how the Browns had initially viewed him as a "supercomputer" for his information processing and football IQ. "The Super Duper Computer," one fan commented. "Supercomputer," another fan said sarcastically. Others urged the Browns to cut Gabriel from the team. "Stop giving reps to him. Just draft (Carson) Beck later on in the draft and either cut Garbiel, or trade him for whatever you can get for him," a fan wrote. "Cut candidate," another fan said. "Whoever decided to draft him in the third round should legitimately be fired. Clearly can't evaluate talent at all," this fan wrote "It's a miracle he ever maded it into the NFL, let alone start games," another fan said. The Browns drafted Dillon Gabriel with the 94th pick last year. In July, Cleveland.com reporter Mary Kay Cabot highlighted that he was called "computer" for his high level of football aptitude. "I've had people tell me that when he did interviews at the Senior Bowl, that he showed just an incredibly high football aptitude, that when he was put up on the whiteboard, that he was blowing teams away with his high football acumen and just how quick he processes," Kabot said on the 'Orange and Brown Talk' podcast. "He's got a computer like brain." Dillon Gabriel was initially named as the backup to QB1 Joe Flacco. However, he took over the starting duties in Week 5. The quarterback sustained a concussion in Week 11, resulting in Shedeur Sanders taking over as QB1 for the remainder of the season. In 10 games, the ex-Oregon star recorded 937 passing yards and seven TDs. Shedeur Sanders got the first reps during the team's Day 1 of voluntary minicamp on Tuesday. However, over the past few weeks, there has been chatter of a quarterback competition between him and returning veteran Deshaun Watson. However, new Browns coach Todd Monken did not completely sideline Dillon Gabriel from this competition. "I wouldn't say it's a two man race. I would say that at every position, there's competition, irrespective of the reps that they get, which I've said before, I mean, everybody ought to be competion," Monken said as per NFL.com. "But what I've liked with Dillon, is the way he goes about his business. Very professional, highly intelligent, understands football, has a certain charisma about him and a confidence that's hard to create. He has it innate. You saw it throughout his career."
