Spurs crush Timberwolves in historic 38-point playoff blowout led by rookie Castle
The San Antonio Spurs dominated the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 133-95 victory in Game 2 of their playoff series. Rookie Stephon Castle led the charge, scoring 21 points and adding four assists in a performance that showcased the team’s heightened aggression. The 38-point win ranks among the most lopsided in Spurs’ postseason history.
Game 1 between the two teams had already been physical, but Castle noted a clear shift in intensity for Game 2. He described the Spurs’ defence as far more aggressive than in the opener, calling it a natural part of their identity rather than a tactical response to Minnesota.
A tense moment unfolded in the third quarter when Timberwolves guard Bones Hyland shoved Castle during a jump ball. The confrontation briefly escalated into pushing, though no technical fouls were called. Despite the flare-up, the Spurs maintained control, extending their lead throughout the game. The 38-point margin places this victory just behind two historic Spurs blowouts—a 40-point win in 1983 and a 39-point rout in 2017. Castle, however, remained focused on improvement. He stressed that the team would review every aspect of the game, regardless of the lopsided score, to prepare for Game 3.
The Spurs now head into Game 3 with momentum, backed by a standout performance from Castle and a defensive effort that stifled Minnesota. Their focus remains on refining their approach, even after one of the most commanding wins in franchise playoff history.
