Arizona State clinches first Big 12 softball title with 4-0 shutout over Texas Tech
Arizona State has claimed its first Big 12 softball championship after a dominant 4-0 victory over Texas Tech. The win marks a historic moment for the team, which broke through after struggling to score in earlier tournament matchups. Pitcher Kenzie Brown delivered a standout performance, securing a two-hit shutout in the final game. The game turned decisively in the third inning. Arizona State exploded for four runs—its first against Texas Tech in five tournament meetings. Tanya Windle, Emily Schepp, and Katie Chester each blasted home runs to power the offensive surge.
On the mound, Kenzie Brown was nearly untouchable. She struck out nine batters while allowing just two hits, improving her season record to 15-6 with a 2.29 ERA. Texas Tech’s starter, Kaitlyn Terry, struggled early, giving up three unearned runs on four hits before being pulled after recording only two outs. NiJaree Canady took over for Texas Tech and limited the damage, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out nine. But the Red Raiders, last year’s Women’s College World Series runners-up, couldn’t overcome the early deficit. Arizona State, a two-time national champion with 19 World Series appearances, now advances with renewed momentum.
The championship win secures Arizona State’s place in the upcoming Women’s College World Series. Kenzie Brown’s shutout and the team’s third-inning power surge proved decisive against a tough Texas Tech side. The victory adds a new title to the programme’s long history of success.
