Yakutsk Hosts Russian Checkers Tournament Honoring Veterans and Their Families

The third Republican Russian Checkers Tournament was held in Yakutsk to honour Defenders of the Fatherland Day. The event formed part of the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland celebrations in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Participants included veterans of the special military operation and their relatives The tournament was organised by the state-funded Defenders of the Fatherland foundation, with support from the Yakutia branch of OPORA RUSSIA. Gazprombank assisted with logistics and provided refreshments for the players.

International grandmaster and multiple world checkers champion Matrena Nogovitsyna helped prepare and oversee the competition. Winners and runners-up received medals, certificates, and prizes donated by Mikhail Sosin, Leonid Solovyov, and Irina Anisimova. Sardana Pavlova, chair of the Yakutia regional branch of OPORA RUSSIA, praised the organisers for their professionalism. She highlighted the importance of supporting such initiatives for veterans and their families.

The event brought together participants for a day of intellectual competition and mutual respect. Prizes and recognition were awarded to the top performers, marking another successful edition of the tournament. Organisers and partners reaffirmed their commitment to honouring those involved in the special military operation.
