New ice arena opens at remote Chayandinskoye oil and gas field

A new covered ice arena has officially opened at the Chayandinskoye oil, gas, and condensate field. The facility welcomed its first visitors on November 20, marking a key step in improving life for workers in the remote area. Employees and winter sports fans can now use the arena during their shifts or free time.

The venue has already hosted its first event—a friendly hockey match between two local teams. The opening ceremony took place with Vladimir Kobychev, CEO of Gazprom Dobycha Noyabrsk, and Ivan Samborsky, chairman of the company’s trade union, in attendance. Both officials highlighted the arena’s role in boosting social infrastructure for field workers.

On the same day, the first hockey game was played inside the new facility. Yamal’s Sterkhs faced the Power of Siberia team, with the match ending in a 2-2 draw. The arena is now fully operational for both recreational use and competitive events.

Workers on rotation shifts will benefit most from the new space. It provides a dedicated area for sports and leisure, helping to ease the challenges of living in a remote industrial location. The ice arena’s launch improves daily life for employees at the Chayandinskoye field. It offers a place for exercise, team sports, and community activities. The facility is expected to play a long-term role in supporting worker well-being and morale.
