Lena River water levels drop but flood risks linger in key settlements

Water levels along the Lena River are dropping steadily in Lenski District. The decline has continued for several hours, easing pressure in some areas. However, key settlements still face risks from high water and shifting ice. In Peleduy, the river remains 75 cm above critical flood thresholds. Heavy ice drift is complicating conditions, though levels have fallen to 1,275 cm—a drop of 30 cm in the last hour. The flood stage here begins at 1,200 cm, meaning the situation stays precarious.

Vitim is seeing a faster decrease, with water now at 1,010 cm after a 63 cm drop in just one hour. Light ice drift is present, but the level remains 60 cm above the 950 cm flood threshold. Authorities continue to monitor both locations closely.

The downward trend brings some relief, but Peleduy and Vitim still exceed critical water marks. Ice movement adds further challenges in both areas. Local officials are tracking changes as the situation develops.
