Kuwait Launches Biennial Award to Celebrate Gulf Women's Achievements

Kuwait has launched a new biennial award to honour Gulf women’s achievements and boost empowerment initiatives. The scheme, announced by Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Dr. Hanan AlHuwayla, falls under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister. It aims to recognise outstanding contributions across governmental, private, and civil society sectors, as well as individual success stories.

The award will take place every two years on May 16, beginning with a regional focus before expanding internationally. A high-level committee, supervised by the Ministry of Social Affairs, will manage its organisation and execution. The initiative aligns with Kuwait Vision 2035 and complements existing national efforts, such as the Kuwait Award for Creativity for People with Disabilities.

Two main goals drive the programme: celebrating Gulf women’s accomplishments and empowering winners through practical support. The scheme also seeks to transfer knowledge and experience from winners to future generations. Additionally, it will introduce an online platform to showcase women’s initiatives and improve empowerment metrics in Kuwait.

The award reflects the leadership’s commitment to women’s role in driving societal change. Winners will gain recognition and access to programmes designed to amplify their impact. The first edition is expected to set a foundation for broader regional and international participation in the coming years.
