Over the last 24 hours, forest fires have marched their way south from the north, according to a recent declaration from the Federal Aviation and Forest Protection Service.
The flames in the Hiloisky District took root when a grass fire erupted on agricultural land and found its way into the forest, as per the statement.
As of May 4, there are 3 raging infernos actively scorching the Tunogochensky, Karinsky, and Hiloisky Districts in the Zabaykalsky Krai region.
In all, 24 forest fires are currently being battled across an area of 302,500 hectares in the Zabaykalsky Krai. Of these, 14 fires have been suppressed on an area of 254,100 hectares.
More than 1,300 parachutists from the Federal Aviation and Forest Protection Service and Zabaykalskleskhoz are tirelessly working on quelling the fires. Nearly 150 units of ground equipment have been drafted into service. In the past 24 hours, the Federal Aviation and Forest Protection Service has mobilized a squadron of 11 aircraft and helicopters for firefighting and monitoring the forest fire situation.
