Schwesig Proceeds with New Year's Reception Despite Severe Weather Warning

Freezing rain is forecast, and Germany's national meteorological service has issued a severe weather alert. Nevertheless, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's state premier, Manuela Schwesig, is going ahead with her New Year's reception in Waren on Lake Müritz.

Despite an official severe weather warning from the German Meteorological Service (DWD) for black ice hazards, State Premier Manuela Schwesig (SPD) is moving forward with her New Year's reception in Waren (Müritz) on Monday evening. "The New Year's reception will take place as planned," a government spokesperson confirmed in response to a query from the German Press Agency (dpa). Around 350 guests from across the state have been invited to the event, which is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.

According to the DWD's severe weather warning, western parts of the state face a high risk of black ice from freezing rain starting at 8:00 p.m. For the rest of the region, the DWD has issued a preliminary alert, indicating that severe icy conditions could also develop there from 9:00 p.m. onward.
