Hannover 96 appoints Christian Titz as their latest head coach.
Filling a Crucial Void: Hannover 96's New Coach
Score a goal for Hannover 96 this summer, as they've snagged none other than Christian Titz as their head coach for the 2025/26 season! Titz, fresh from league rivals 1. FC Magdeburg, has signed a two-year contract, and assistant coach André Kilian will tag along. Lars Barlemann remains a solid member of the 96 coaching team.
A Promising Rise with Magdeburg
You might know Titz for his impressive tenure with Magdeburg, taking the reins in February 2021 when the club was struggling in the third league. He quickly secured an easy relegation and, the following year, orchestrated an epic 83-goal victory in 36 games, giving Magdeburg a 14-point lead over the second-placed team and sealing a promotion to the 2nd league. The next three seasons found Titz solidifying Magdeburg's 2nd league status, with a 5th-place finish in the 2024/25 season.
A Relationship Built on Trust
Hannover 96 Managing Director, Marcus Mann, expressed his enthusiasm for Titz's clear vision and forward-thinking approach to football, stating, "He will continue our path of integrating and developing young players... Now it's up to the team to work hard from day one with the coaching team to absorb, internalize, and bring the playing idea onto the pitch."
Sporting Director Ralf Becker echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Titz's success in transforming teams and players while integrating youth development.
Titz himself couldn't hide his excitement, acknowledging the faith placed in him and expressing his eagerness to join the team.
Old Stops and New Roots
Born in Mannheim in 1971, Titz had to retire early due to injury. This spurred him to launch his coaching career in youth and amateur football. After earning his UEFA Pro License, he led traditional club FC 08 Homburg back to the Regionalliga in 2012. A stint with Hamburger SV followed, where he coached the U17 and U21 teams before being promoted to lead the Bundesliga team in March 2018.
After Hamburg, Titz took on head coaching roles at Rot-Weiss Essen and, ultimately, Magdeburg. In addition to his football career, Titz holds a degree in business administration and is a patron of the RheumaKinder e.V. non-profit association.
A Fresh Start with the Squad
André Kilian, Titz's longtime assistant, will join him from Magdeburg. Lars Barlemann, who's been with Hannover 96 since 2014, stays put as a vital member of the coaching team.
Gear up, folks! The first training session under Titz starts on June 21, 2025, at 11:15 AM at the Heinz von Heiden Arena. All fans are welcome to join and catch the action! A press conference to introduce the new 96 head coach will be scheduled soon.
