Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Wiesbaden and surrounding areas

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Wiesbaden and nearby regions. The alert, released by the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), covers Sunday evening, May 10, and remains active until 11:30 p.m. local time. The forecast predicts intense thunderstorms with gale-force winds reaching 70 kilometres per hour. This strength matches Beaufort scale force 8, indicating potentially hazardous conditions. Residents should prepare for sudden gusts and flying debris.

Heavy rainfall is also expected, with up to 15 litres of precipitation per square metre each hour. The storms may bring small hail, adding to the risk of damage and difficult travel conditions.

The warning covers a wide area around Wiesbaden. Authorities advise people to stay indoors and secure loose objects outside. The DWD will continue monitoring the situation until the alert expires.
