Frankfurt's electric waste fleet grows with 10 new Mercedes eEconic trucks
Frankfurt Waste Management and Service GmbH (FES) has expanded its zero-emission fleet with ten new Mercedes-Benz eEconic trucks. This latest addition brings the total number of battery-electric low-entry vehicles in operation to 34. The move is part of the city’s push to reduce emissions while maintaining reliable municipal services.
The new eEconic trucks are built for urban operations, featuring a low-entry cab and a panoramic windscreen for better visibility. Each vehicle is powered by three battery packs, offering a total capacity of 336 kWh and a usable capacity of around 291 kWh. Their quiet operation is particularly beneficial during early morning collections, reducing noise for both workers and residents.
FES is also investing in charging infrastructure across Frankfurt to support the growing fleet. The trucks will be used for waste collection, street cleaning, and other city services. This expansion aligns with FES’s long-term goal of transitioning to a fully electrified municipal fleet in the coming years. Frankfurt’s commitment to electric waste collection highlights how cities can cut emissions without sacrificing efficiency. The initiative has positioned FES as a model for sustainable urban operations across Europe.
With 34 electric low-entry vehicles now in service, Frankfurt continues to lead in sustainable waste management. The new eEconic trucks improve operational efficiency while reducing noise and emissions. The city’s ongoing investment in charging infrastructure ensures the fleet remains ready for future expansion.
