GSIS Launches Affordable Bike and E-Mobility Loan for Greener Commutes
The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has launched a new loan programme to help members buy bicycles and electric mobility devices. Called the Ginhawa Bike and E-Mobility Loan (GBEL), the scheme aims to cut daily travel costs while supporting greener transport options. Under the GBEL, qualified members can borrow up to 100% of the unit cost for brand-new bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds, cargo e-bikes, and folding e-bikes. The maximum loan amount is set at PHP300,000, payable over three years at a fixed 5% annual interest rate. No service fees apply upon approval.
Applications are processed entirely online through the GSIS Touch app. The initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s push for more livable and accessible communities under the Unified Package for Livelihood, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT). GSIS President Wick Veloso described the programme as a practical solution for government workers seeking cheaper and more flexible commuting. The new facility follows the earlier Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan (GSEL), which focused on reducing household electricity bills.
The loan scheme provides an affordable way for members to access eco-friendly transport. With a simple online process and low interest rates, it offers a direct route to cutting daily travel expenses. The programme also supports broader efforts to improve urban mobility and sustainability.
