Bacolod to give free school supplies to 64,000 public students
The City Government of Bacolod will distribute free school supplies and uniforms to over 64,000 public elementary students this year. The initiative, backed by a P90 million budget, aims to support families facing economic challenges ahead of the new school term. The programme stems from a 2016 ordinance authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito. It guarantees free educational materials for all Kinder to Grade 6 pupils in Bacolod’s public schools. Funding comes from the Special Education Fund (SEF).
Each student will receive a kit containing notebooks, writing pads, pens, and pencils. The city will also provide school bags and PE uniforms to 46,694 pupils. Distribution plans are currently being finalised to ensure supplies reach students before classes begin. Mayor Greg Gasataya worked closely with the Department of Education-Schools Division of Bacolod to organise the effort. He described the project as a vital investment in the city’s youth, helping ease financial burdens on parents during difficult times.
The P90 million allocation will cover essential items for 64,625 pupils across Bacolod. Final preparations for distribution are underway, with the goal of delivering all materials before the school year starts. The initiative remains a key part of the city’s education support system.
