Gold Gala 2024 Honors Simu Liu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Charles Melton for Cultural Impact
The fifth annual Gold House Gold Gala celebrated outstanding contributions to culture and community over the weekend. Among the honourees were Simu Liu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Charles Melton, each recognised for their impact in film and advocacy. The event highlighted themes of identity, representation, and the strength of shared support.
Simu Liu took centre stage as the recipient of the Gold Mogul award. The actor, known for his roles in Shang-Chi and Barbie, was presented the honour by director Destin Daniel Cretton and filmmaker James Wan. In his speech, Liu credited his achievements to the tight-knit community of Chinese graduate students he lived among in Canada. He also stressed how collective encouragement had shaped his career.
The gala also introduced two new accolades. Charles Melton received the inaugural Gold Artistic Achievement Honor for his performance in *Beef*. Accepting the award, he reflected on his character Austin’s internal battles with identity and direction—struggles he found deeply relatable. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra Jonas was presented with the first-ever global Vanguard Award, acknowledging her influence across industries. Closing the evening, Gold House co-founder Bing Chen reinforced the gala’s core message. He spoke about the vital role of closeness and solidarity within Asian and Pacific Islander communities. His remarks tied together the night’s celebrations of individual success and shared progress.
The Gold Gala once again spotlighted artists and advocates driving change in representation. Liu, Melton, and Chopra Jonas were among those honoured for their cultural impact. Their recognition underscored the event’s focus on community, collaboration, and the power of collective support.
