Dash Crofts of Seals & Crofts dies at 85 after heart surgery

(Gray News) - Dash Crofts, one half of the soft-rock duo Seals & Crofts, died Wednesday at the age of 85, according to reports.

Louie Shelton, a producer who worked with Seals & Crofts, first reported the news on social media.

"Sad to hear our dear brother and partner in music has passed away today. Sending love and prayers to all his family and many fans," Shelton said.

His family also confirmed Crofts's death to USA Today. He reportedly died from complications after heart surgery, according to TMZ.

Crofts met Jim Seals while playing together in the rock band The Champs. The two later created their own outfit, Seals & Crofts. They debuted in 1969 with a self-titled album.

The duo is best-known for their hits, "Summer Breeze," "Diamond Girl" and "Get Closer." According to USA Today, the band's fourth album, "Summer Breeze," was certified gold and sold more than 2 million copies. Its title track peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Crofts and Seals split in the 1980s, according to Variety. They had small reunions throughout the early 1990s and 2000s, but only recorded one album post-breakup.

Seals died in 2022.
