Yankees sign veteran pitcher Peter Strzelecki to minor league contract

The New York Yankees have added right-handed pitcher Peter Strzelecki to their organisation on a minor league deal. The move follows his recent departure from the Milwaukee Brewers, where he briefly featured in the majors before becoming a free agent. Strzelecki began 2026 with the Brewers, who promoted him to their major league roster on May 16. Just a day later, he was designated for assignment. After clearing waivers, he chose free agency rather than accept an outright assignment.

Before his stint in Milwaukee, the 30-year-old spent time in Triple-A Nashville, posting a 4.12 ERA across 16 appearances. His career in the majors spans 77 games, with a solid 3.44 ERA overall. His best stretch came in 2024 with the Cleveland Guardians, where he recorded a 2.31 ERA in 11 outings. The Yankees have now assigned him to their Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. However, his lack of minor league options could affect how the team manages his roster spot moving forward.

Strzelecki brings experience to the Yankees’ pitching depth, though his immediate role remains with their top minor league club. His past success in short stints may offer New York a reliable arm if needed at the major league level.
