Yakutia Railways and China advance cross-border freight and railway ties
A delegation from Yakutia Railways recently took part in a high-level business meeting in Harbin. The event, held as part of the Russia-China EXPO Forum, focused on improving transport and logistics ties between Russia’s Far East and Northeast China. Key figures from both countries gathered to discuss cross-border freight and railway cooperation.
The third meeting of the Business Council of Russia’s Far East and Northeast China was organised by the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation JSC. Leading the Yakutia Railways team was CEO Vasily Shimokhin, alongside Executive Director Dmitry Kondratov. They joined Chinese representatives, including Di Wei, Deputy Director-General of China Railway Group Corporation, and Wang Hao, Deputy Head of Harbin Railway Co., Ltd.
During the talks, participants examined ways to streamline cross-border freight operations. Wang Hao raised specific concerns about train exchanges at border checkpoints. Kondratov stressed the need to align technological processes to boost efficiency in bilateral cooperation. Yakutia Railways also highlighted progress on two major projects. The company is pushing forward with the Dzhalinda–Mohe international transport corridor, a key link between the two regions. Additionally, work to restore the Skovorodino–Reinovo railway section remains on track, with completion expected by the end of 2027.
The meeting reinforced efforts to strengthen transport links between Russia and China. Discussions centred on practical steps to improve freight movement and border procedures. Both sides now look to implement the agreed measures in the coming months.
