Vladivostok sidewalk collapse exposes critical power line risks
A section of pavement near Vladivostok’s Okean movie theater has collapsed, raising concerns over underground infrastructure. The incident exposed an 110 kV cable line that powers the city’s central district and essential services. Investigations have now pinpointed the cause of the collapse.
Experts from Primorsky Electric Networks (DRSK) examined the site and confirmed the collapse stemmed from structural weaknesses in the retaining walls. Their findings ruled out any faults in DRSK’s own networks. Despite this, the company acted quickly to secure the area and repair the damaged pavement, ensuring the buried power line remained protected.
To prevent future incidents, DRSK has called for a joint inspection with Vladivostok’s city administration. The company also expressed readiness to work alongside local authorities in addressing similar risks across the city.
The sidewalk repairs have been completed, safeguarding the critical power supply beneath. DRSK’s proposal for closer cooperation with the city aims to reduce the likelihood of further collapses. Officials will now assess the next steps in reinforcing vulnerable infrastructure.
