Washington State's epic comeback secures spot in Big Ten title game
Washington State secured a dramatic comeback to reach the Big Ten tournament title game. The team overcame a five-run deficit to defeat San Diego State 14-9. Their victory sets up a final showdown against the same opponent later this week. Washington State’s offence exploded after a slow start. Trailing 5-0 early, they scored eight runs in the second inning alone. Two more runs followed in the third, with another four in the fourth.
Luke Meyers delivered a strong performance on the mound. Pitching seven innings in relief, he matched his career high with seven strikeouts. At the plate, Gavin Roy, Max Hartman, and Dustin Robinson each collected three hits. Robinson also contributed a home run and two RBIs. Meanwhile, Washington’s season came to an end with a 9-4 loss to Oregon in the tournament. Despite Ty Cowan’s ninth-inning grand slam, their record finished at 25-32.
Washington State’s late surge ensured their place in the championship game. The team’s offensive firepower and Meyers’ pitching proved decisive in the semi-final. They will now face San Diego State again for the tournament title.
