Vladivostok's City Duma transforms schools and streets in 2025

Vladivostok’s City Duma deputies have been actively addressing local issues in 2025, from infrastructure repairs to educational initiatives. One standout project was the opening of a specialised chess classroom at School No. 9, supported by Speaker Andrei Brik and Deputy Alesya Korsak. The move reflects broader efforts to strengthen community engagement and improve public services across the city. The chess classroom at School No. 9 launched in 2025, offering students advanced training in both chess strategies and Chinese language instruction. The initiative was spearheaded by City Duma Speaker Andrei Brik and Deputy Alesya Korsak, with the Duma donating around a hundred chess books and training manuals. Students from the school later showcased their skills during an online exchange with peers from Harbin, China, applying tactics from legendary grandmasters.

Another 12 educational institutions in Vladivostok are now following suit, establishing similar chess-focused classrooms.

Meanwhile, deputies have tackled infrastructure concerns across their districts. Andrei Brik oversaw repairs to the retaining wall and storm drains between 17a Lutsky Street and 18 Lazo Street. He also addressed urgent maintenance needs, including water pipe repairs, electrical inspections, and heating riser upgrades in buildings 18–24 on Lazo Street. In District No. 25, Brik met with property managers and contractors to discuss roof repairs for the residential building at 24 Neibuta Street.

Deputy Kirill Grigoriev focused on community engagement in the 24th electoral district, supporting the creation of eight local self-governance groups. In 2025 alone, he held 36 meetings, responded to 58 constituent requests, and resolved 70 percent of them successfully.

Dmitry Novikov, another Deputy Chairman, played a key role in resolving a heating network failure in the Tikhaya Bukhta microdistrict after a January outage. He also supervised landscaping improvements along 'Cosmonauts Alley' on Sakhalinskaya Street and the installation of a 110 kV cable line by VT.

Other deputies, including Vyacheslav Glushko, Yevgeny Pimenov, Maria Lagunova, Artyom Volodin, and Yevgeny Nedbay, contributed to addressing pressing issues across Vladivostok. The City Duma’s efforts in 2025 have led to tangible improvements, from educational enhancements to critical infrastructure fixes. With more chess classrooms in development and ongoing repairs to public utilities, the initiatives aim to create lasting benefits for Vladivostok’s residents. The deputies’ work continues to focus on direct community needs and long-term urban development.
