Sotheby's Debuts Australian Luxury Week with Multi-City Auctions in 2026

Sotheby’s Australia is launching its first Australian Luxury Week from May 25 to 30, 2026. The event spans three cities—Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth—with back-to-back salerooms for jewellery, watches, and handbags. This marks the first time the auction house has run consecutive sales across multiple locations.

The week kicks off in Sydney on May 25 and 26 with a combined Jewellery, Watches, and Handbags sale. Among the highlights are three signed Cartier pieces, each estimated above AU$200,000. The event then moves to Melbourne for a two-day sale on May 28 and 29, focusing on Australian-collected estate jewellery. Rare exotic leather Hermes Birkin and Kelly bags will also feature in the Melbourne handbags book.

Perth wraps up the series on May 30 with a single-day Watches sale. Unlike the broader Sydney and Melbourne auctions, this session specialises in independent-maker references. Sotheby’s is using the event to test direct retail demand in the Asia-Pacific market for a wider range of luxury items. The sell-through rates and clearance averages from these sales will provide insights into the region’s luxury pricing trends. This expansion follows Sotheby’s ongoing efforts to grow its luxury footprint in Australia.

Australian Luxury Week runs across Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth over six days. The results will help gauge demand for high-end jewellery, watches, and handbags in the Asia-Pacific region. Clearance rates from the auctions will also reflect current market conditions for luxury goods.
