The Devil Wears Prada 2 crushes box offices with $233.6M global debut
The long-awaited sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2 has stormed global box offices with a debut of $233.6 million. This makes it the second-highest opening of the year, trailing only The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($372.5 million). The film’s strong performance comes from both domestic and international markets, where it topped charts in most regions. In North America, the film opened at $77 million, surpassing early industry estimates of $73 million. Overseas, the sequel earned $156.6 million—marking the second-best international launch for a Hollywood release this year.
Europe contributed $78 million, with the first weekend already outpacing the original film’s total run in many countries. Italy led the way with $16.6 million, the biggest offshore opening for the sequel and the fourth-highest ever for an MPA title. Meanwhile, Latin America brought in $38.5 million, with the sequel’s debut weekend exceeding the original’s entire theatrical run in every market. Mexico alone delivered $11.7 million, the second-best result of the year for an MPA film. The Asia-Pacific region added $40 million, with several countries seeing the sequel’s opening weekend surpass the original’s full box office. The film also dominated in Brazil, Australia, and Korea, where it achieved the highest weekend gross of 2024 so far. However, it did not reach the top spot in a few European territories or Japan.
With a global total of $233.6 million, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has cemented its place as one of the year’s biggest releases. The sequel’s performance in key markets suggests strong momentum, particularly where it has already outgrossed its predecessor. The results highlight its broad appeal across multiple regions.
