Teen driver crashes into traffic light after suspected cocaine use in Dortmund
An 18-year-old driver crashed his Volkswagen into a traffic light in Dortmund early Sunday morning. The incident occurred on Bornstraße at around 12:30 a.m., leaving the vehicle heavily damaged. Authorities suspect speed and drug use were contributing factors. The young man lost control of his car while driving at what investigators describe as a dangerously high speed. After the collision, he briefly fled the scene on foot but returned shortly afterwards. When questioned, he could not explain his sudden disappearance.
Police took the driver into custody and conducted a blood test at the station. Preliminary results indicate he was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the crash. Despite the severity of the impact, he escaped without injury. The car was seized, and his licence was immediately revoked. Charges now include hit-and-run, endangering road traffic, and illegal street racing. The total cost of the damage to property is estimated at €17,000.
The driver now faces multiple criminal charges following the crash. His vehicle remains impounded, and his licence has been confiscated. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
