Strengthening Forest Patrols in Kamchatka by 150%
In response to the approaching fire season, Kamchatka Krai will witness a significant enhancement in forest patrols, with a 1.5-fold increase in regular patrols and over 2.5 times boost during peak danger periods. This measure is aimed at reducing the risk of forest fires and ensuring a swift response in emergency situations.
According to Denis Egorov, head of the federal state forest control department of the Kamchatka Krai Ministry of Forestry, the increase in traditional forest patrols is part of forest protection efforts. The goal is to inform the public, identify, and prevent violations of fire safety rules. A total of 64 state forest inspectors will be conducting checks along 329 routes covering over 20,000 kilometers of Kamchatka's forested lands.
In past years, lessees and the general public have been found to violate fire safety rules in numerous ways, primarily through unauthorized bonfires, use of grills or braziers under tree canopies, and negligence in dry grass areas or unprotected platforms.
The fire season in Kamchatka Krai this year is expected to stretch from April 25 to November 1. For reporting any violations of forest legislation, residents, tourists, and patrol officers can contact the direct line of the forest protection service (8-800-100-94-00), use the single emergency services number (112), or employ the "Protect the Forest" mobile app, using the feature to indicate the violation location and attach relevant photos.
Enhanced forest patrols are part of broader efforts to combat wildfires, reflecting increased attention and investment in Siberian and Far Eastern forests, including legislative updates, improved monitoring, and community awareness campaigns on fire safety. The hope is that these measures will result in a safer and more fire-resilient Kamchatka Krai.
