Scott Hastings, Scotland rugby legend and pundit, dies at 61
Scott Hastings, the former Scotland rugby center and TV pundit, has died at the age of 61. The Scottish Rugby Union confirmed his passing on Sunday, following a battle with cancer that he publicly revealed in 2022. Hastings was a key figure in Scottish rugby, earning 65 caps for his country—the most by any men’s center in Scotland’s history. He scored 10 tries during his international career and played a crucial role in Scotland’s 1990 Five Nations Grand Slam victory.
Alongside his older brother Gavin, he also represented the British & Irish Lions, touring in 1989 and 1993. The brothers formed a formidable partnership both for Scotland and the Lions. After retiring from the game, Hastings transitioned into media, becoming a well-known rugby pundit. His family stated that he passed away peacefully and without pain.
Hastings leaves behind a lasting legacy in Scottish rugby, remembered for his skill, leadership, and contributions to the sport. His death follows a period of illness, with his diagnosis made public two years ago.
