Russia's national folk festival kicks off with 260 competing ensembles in Krasnodar

The All-Russian Festival-Competition for amateur performing groups has begun its zonal stage in Krasnodar. Organised by Russia’s Ministry of Culture, the event brings together ensembles from across the country for competitive performances and creative exchanges. This year, over 260 groups are taking part in the 'Traditions' category.

The opening ceremony took place at the G.F. Ponomarenko Philharmonic Hall in Krasnodar. Among the participants is the Stanitsa dance ensemble from Yelizavetinskaya, representing Krasnodar Krai. Other competing groups include ensembles from Adygea, Dagestan, Karachay-Cherkessia, Chechnya, and Stavropol Krai, bringing the total to nine regional teams.

Earlier, a federal jury selected 60 finalist ensembles from the initial qualifying round. These groups will now compete in in-person district contests. Competitive auditions are scheduled for May 23, with winners announced immediately afterwards. Five qualifying stages are planned across different federal districts. A total of 20 laureate groups will be chosen to advance. Winners of the zonal stage will receive development grants and the chance to represent their regions at the gala concert in Moscow.

The top-performing ensemble will be awarded a grant of 2 million rubles. They will also perform at the gala concert in Moscow on October 12, 2026. The festival continues to showcase regional talent while supporting the growth of amateur performing arts across Russia.
