Vladivostok celebrates young journalists at Golden Pen of Primorye awards
The winners of the fourth season of the Golden Pen of Primorye – Discovery competition were honoured at an award ceremony in Vladivostok on May 21. The event brought together young journalists, industry experts, and regional officials to celebrate talent and discuss the future of media. The ceremony was hosted by Lada Pasechnik, a journalist with Primorye Public Television. Speakers included Alexander Khudolozhny, Minister of Internal Policy for Primorsky Krai, who highlighted how the competition helps young people develop their skills and confidence.
Viktor Sukhanov, editor-in-chief of the Primorsky branch of the Russian Union of Journalists, praised the participants for their enthusiasm and fresh ideas. Vasilisa Khodneva, deputy chair of the Committee on Youth Policy, urged aspiring journalists to adapt to modern storytelling formats. Three master classes were held during the event. Sergei Petrachkov, editor-in-chief of PrimaMedia, taught techniques for writing quickly and clearly. Andrei Pavlov, a video producer and screenwriter, led a session on dramaturgy for journalists. Meanwhile, stand-up comedian Alexei Zharov shared strategies for keeping audiences engaged in today’s fast-paced media landscape. Svetlana Gorodnik, deputy head of Primorsky Krai’s Center for Youth Policy, expressed optimism about the participants' future careers. Sergei Bulakh, director of the Higher School of Film and Television at Vladivostok State University, announced plans for a new competition category next season.
The event recognised young journalists while offering them practical training from experienced professionals. Organisers and speakers alike emphasised the importance of adapting to new media trends and continuing to support emerging talent in the region.
