Texas judge revokes bond for fugitive Lee Gilley after GPS tampering and flight abroad
A Texas judge has revoked the bond of Lee Gilley Gilley was initially released on a $1 million bond under strict conditions, including wearing a GPS tracking device. Prosecutors claim he violated these terms by disabling the monitor and leaving the country. Italian border officials later detained him after he presented false identification documents.
The case has drawn further legal restrictions. Judge Peyton Peebles III issued a gag order, barring attorneys and involved parties from discussing the matter with the media. Prosecutors also plan to introduce evidence of Gilley’s prior convictions and unrelated offences during the trial. Gilley faces charges of intentionally strangling his wife, who was pregnant at the time of her death. His extradition to the U.S. remains pending as Italian authorities hold him in custody.
With his bond revoked and a gag order in place, Gilley’s legal proceedings will move forward under tighter controls. The prosecution’s use of his criminal history may play a key role in the upcoming trial. His return to the U.S. depends on extradition processes between the two countries.
