HMS Trent deploys to Caribbean for drug patrols and hurricane relief

HMS Trent has set sail for the Caribbean to carry out counter-narcotics patrols and disaster relief missions. The Royal Navy ship will also take part in a major maritime event before undergoing scheduled maintenance later this year. The patrol vessel departed for its latest deployment with a focus on tackling drug trafficking. In 2024, the ship successfully tracked and intercepted a narco-submarine, seizing illegal cargo worth £750 million.

During the mission, HMS Trent will visit British Overseas Territories in the Caribbean. The crew will also prepare for hurricane season by providing humanitarian support, including disaster response specialists. This follows the ship’s 2024 deployment to Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa struck.

Before maintenance begins, HMS Trent will join Sail 250, a tall ship gathering in New Orleans from 28 May to 1 June. Once repairs and upgrades are complete, the vessel will resume duties under Atlantic Patrol (North). HMS Trent’s deployment combines counter-narcotics work with disaster relief efforts. The ship’s participation in Sail 250 marks a brief pause before maintenance and further patrols. After upgrades, the vessel will return to operations in the Atlantic region.
