Nizhny Novgorod unveils three new sports facilities for schools and community

Three new sports facilities have opened in Nizhny Novgorod as part of the You Decide! public initiative. The first projects include upgraded courts at School No. 79 and School No. 85 in the Sormovo District. Students have already begun using the spaces, which will also host local competitions and events. School No. 79 now has a hockey rink with protective boards, joining a multifunctional court built last year. The rink will double as a summer sports area, offering year-round use. Both facilities have quickly become popular among pupils.

Nearby, School No. 85 unveiled a 1,300-square-metre complex featuring a multipurpose court and a dedicated volleyball area. Workers removed outdated equipment and installed modern polyurethane surfacing for better performance. These courts will serve PE lessons, after-school clubs, and interschool tournaments. The Sormovo District aims to finish ten more projects under *You Decide!* by the end of the year. The initiative lets residents vote on how to spend local funds, with sports infrastructure emerging as a top priority.

The new facilities expand sporting opportunities for students and the wider community. School No. 79’s rink and School No. 85’s courts are now fully operational. Further projects will follow as part of the district’s ongoing development plan.
