Nizhny Novgorod tightens boating rules to protect fish spawning grounds
Head of Water Safety Reminds Boat Owners of Key Rules
Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) is urging residents of Nizhny Novgorod to follow safety regulations for small vessels as the navigation season begins.
Pavel Gladilov, head of the water safety department, noted that under Government Decree No. 9, motorized boats and watercraft are prohibited in the following areas: - Gorky Reservoir (including its tributaries) and the Vetluga River—until May 31, - Cheboksary Reservoir (including its tributaries) and the Oka River—until May 20, - Spawning grounds—until the end of the spawning season (restricted zones are listed in the fishing regulations for the Volga-Caspian Fishery Basin).
EMERCOM also reminds all boat owners to comply with small vessel operation rules when heading out on the water: - The vessel must be registered and display hull identification numbers, - The vessel must pass a technical inspection, and the operator must carry a valid boating license.
