NFR freight transport surges 8.6% in April 2026 on cement and coal boom

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported a strong rise in freight transport for April 2026. The network carried 0.972 million tonnes (MT) during the month, marking an 8.6% increase over the same period last year. Several key commodities saw particularly sharp growth.

The most dramatic surge came in cement, with loading up by 329% compared to April 2025. Coal followed closely, rising by 141.7%, while dolomite saw a 20.7% increase. Even miscellaneous goods under the 'Others' category jumped by 190%.

This steady expansion in freight movement has bolstered regional supply chains and boosted NFR’s revenue. Officials attribute the growth to rising economic and industrial activity across the Northeast and nearby areas. NFR continues to prioritise technological upgrades, smoother operations, and customer-focused freight services. These efforts aim to maintain reliable transport and support long-term growth in cargo volumes.

The April figures highlight NFR’s expanding role in regional trade and logistics. With significant gains in coal, cement, and other goods, the railway’s freight performance reflects broader economic momentum. The focus on efficiency and service quality is expected to sustain this upward trend.
