Monty Python's German spin-off flies onto Blu-ray for the first time in HD
A classic piece of comedy history is returning in a new format. Monty Python’s Fliegender Zirkus, the German spin-off of the legendary British series, will arrive on Blu-ray in the UK on June 5, 2026. The release marks the first time the two-part special has been made available in high definition. The original Monty Python’s Flying Circus became a hit on British TV before the group achieved worldwide fame. Later, Alfred Biolek brought the troupe to Germany to create Monty Python’s Fliegender Zirkus, a two-part special tailored for German audiences. The show was previously released on DVD but has never been remastered for Blu-ray—until now.
The upcoming edition will be a limited-run steelbook, featuring restored HD quality. Fans can expect the original mono audio (Dolby Digital 2.0) alongside subtitles in multiple languages. Bonus materials will include rare extras such as *Euroshow 1971*, the *Mountain Stream Outtake*, *Swimming Lessons with Arthur Lustgarten*, and the *Montreux Special*. Mercury Entertainment is handling the UK release, ensuring collectors and newcomers alike can experience the surreal humour of the Pythons in a fresh format.
The Blu-ray edition offers a chance to revisit a lesser-known but significant chapter in Monty Python’s legacy. With restored visuals and a selection of rare bonus content, the release caters to long-time fans and those discovering the series for the first time. Pre-orders are expected to open ahead of the June 5 launch date.
