Michael Jackson Biopic Michael Shatters Box Office Records on Debut

The new Michael Jackson biopic Michael has smashed box office records with its debut. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson, the film earned the highest-ever opening for a biographical movie. Michael launched with a staggering $97 million in North America and $218.8 million globally. The numbers set a new benchmark for biopics, surpassing all previous records in the genre.

The film’s release also triggered a massive surge in Jackson’s music. During the week of April 24–30, his solo catalogue amassed 137.5 million on-demand streams in the U.S.—a 146% increase from the prior week. This figure more than doubled his previous career high. On the charts, *Thriller* re-entered the Billboard 200 at No. 7, moving 45,000 equivalent album units. The hit single *Billie Jean* returned to the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 38. Jackson’s overall popularity soared as well, climbing from No. 29 to No. 3 on the Billboard Artist 100.

The biopic’s record-breaking debut has reignited interest in Michael Jackson’s music. His albums and singles now dominate streaming platforms and charts, reflecting the film’s widespread impact. The surge in engagement marks one of the biggest post-release boosts for a music legend.
