Lörrach's Cemetery Café returns for reflection, coffee, and community
Lörrach’s main cemetery will host its second 'Cemetery Café' on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The event invites visitors of all ages to gather, reflect, or remember loved ones while enjoying coffee and cake. Organisers hope to build on the success of the first gathering, which attracted a diverse crowd. The café will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Raiffeisenstraße. Depending on the weather, guests can sit under the sunshade or inside the memorial hall’s arcade. Refreshments will be offered on a donation basis, with no fixed charges.
The initiative is a joint effort between the city, local churches, and hospice groups. Lörrach officials see it as a way to strengthen community bonds by providing a welcoming space for conversation and quiet reflection. The first event brought together families, older adults, and people visiting graves, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Plans are already in place to make the café a regular feature. Future sessions will take place on the third Sunday of each month, giving residents a recurring opportunity to connect in a peaceful setting.
The 'Cemetery Café' aims to offer comfort and companionship to those mourning, remembering, or simply seeking a moment of calm. By opening its doors to everyone, the event reinforces Lörrach’s commitment to social cohesion. The next gathering will take place on June 21, 2026, at the same location.
