Magadan Puppet Theater revives Pushkin's Tales of Belkin in bold premiere
The Magadan Regional Puppet Theater will stage the premiere of The Tales of Belkin next month. Inspired by Alexander Pushkin’s work, the production blends mystery, irony, and nature into a detective-style narrative. Audiences can catch the show on June 13 and 14 at noon. The performance brings two of Pushkin’s stories to life: The Blizzard and The Undertaker. In The Blizzard, a snowstorm reshapes the destinies of two lovers, while The Undertaker follows a craftsman tormented by a chilling dream after relocating his home. Yevgenia Tarasova directs the production, with Yelena Pimakhova handling set design and Anna Bulgakova composing the score.
Critics have long debated The Tales of Belkin. Vissarion Belinsky once dismissed the collection, yet Anna Akhmatova later praised its deep moral questions. Despite differing views, the stories remain a cornerstone of Russian literature.
Tickets are now on sale online. Attendees can use the Pushkin Card for payment, making the performances accessible to a wider audience. The two performances will take place on the theater’s main stage. Both The Blizzard and The Undertaker promise a mix of drama and psychological depth. With a creative team behind it, the production aims to offer a fresh take on Pushkin’s timeless tales.
