Lord's Cricket Ground relaxes dress code for scorching T20 Blast matchday
Lord’s Cricket Ground will ease its strict dress code for members during the upcoming T20 Blast match. The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) announced the change ahead of the Middlesex vs Surrey game on Friday, May 24. The decision comes as London braces for unusually warm weather this week. The MCC has traditionally required members in the Pavilion to wear lounge suits, tailored jackets, and ties. However, this rule will be relaxed for the match due to forecasts of high temperatures. The Met Office predicts London will reach up to 29°C, with BBC Weather reporting a peak of 26°C (feeling like 29°C) by midday.
This is not the first time the club has adjusted its dress code for extreme heat. Similar exceptions were made during heatwaves in 2018 and 2022. The match itself follows a mixed start to the T20 Blast season. Surrey secured a strong 59-run victory over Lancashire in their opening game. Meanwhile, Middlesex suffered a 17-run defeat against Kent in their first fixture.
The relaxed dress code will apply only to the May 24 fixture between Middlesex and Surrey. Members can attend without jackets, though other standards remain in place. The decision reflects the MCC’s response to forecasted heat, ensuring comfort while maintaining the Pavilion’s formal atmosphere.
