Lane Kiffin reunites with Ed Orgeron for a bold new era at LSU
Lane Kiffin is preparing for his first season as LSU’s head coach. He has brought in Ed Orgeron, a familiar face, to help with recruiting and defence. The two have worked together before, and their reunion marks a fresh start for both at the university.
Kiffin and Orgeron first teamed up in 2001 at USC. Their partnership continued until 2013, when Orgeron took over as interim head coach after Kiffin’s departure. Despite a strong 6-2 record in that stint, Orgeron was not given the permanent role.
Orgeron later returned to LSU, where he had briefly played and coached. In 2015, he served as defensive line coach before becoming interim head coach in 2016. A 6-2 record and a Citrus Bowl victory earned him the full-time position. His tenure included a national championship in 2019, but he was let go in 2021 with a 67-47 overall record. Now, Kiffin is assembling his staff and has turned to Orgeron again. This time, Orgeron joins as a special assistant, focusing on recruiting and defensive strategy. Both will be looking for better results than their last collaboration in 2013.
Orgeron’s return to LSU brings experience and familiarity to Kiffin’s new-look coaching team. His role in recruiting and defence will be key as the programme prepares for the upcoming season. The pair’s shared history suggests they will work closely to turn past setbacks into future success.
