Krasnodar Region battles localized floods after record May downpours
Heavy rainfall struck the Krasnodar Region on May 20, causing localised flooding in several districts. While dozens of residential yards were affected, homes remained dry as authorities responded with emergency measures.
The downpours triggered flooding in Novokubansk, Tbilissky, Ust-Labinsky, and Armavir. In Prikubansky, a settlement in Novokubansk District, 37 yards were submerged, though no water entered buildings. Specialised pumping equipment was brought in to clear the standing water.
Seven household plots in Armavir also experienced flooding, but again, homes stayed dry. Nearby, in Geimanovskaya, four residential areas saw rising groundwater levels, though no actual flooding occurred. The heavy rain caused rivers to swell, including the Goryachaya Balka, Laba, Yedoka, and Protoka. A day earlier, on May 19, a mudslide had covered a 100-metre section of the road between Ladozhskaya and Bratsky. Weather warnings for intense rainfall remained in place across Krasnodar Krai through May 21.
Despite the widespread flooding in yards and roads, no residential buildings were damaged. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as severe weather alerts remain active in the region.
