Vietnam woos Belgian and EU firms with trade and green economy push
Vietnam is stepping up efforts to attract Belgian and European businesses as trade ties continue to grow. A recent seminar in Brussels highlighted strong interest from firms looking to explore opportunities in the country. Officials now see a 'golden opportunity' for Vietnamese enterprises to benefit from the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). On May 19, a seminar in Brussels drew numerous Belgian and European companies eager to learn about Vietnam’s business environment. Trần Ngọc Quân, Vietnam’s Trade Counsellor in Belgium and the EU, noted high demand from the Vietnamese business community in the Benelux region for updated investment information.
Quân emphasised the potential for growth in trade and investment, particularly in green economy development, energy transition, and digital transformation. He also called for better coordination between overseas Vietnamese business groups and trade agencies to strengthen connections with European firms. Later this year, delegations of overseas Vietnamese enterprises from the Flemish and Walloon regions will attend green economy events in Vietnam. The country will also take part in European Hydrogen Week in Brussels in October, marking a new phase in clean energy cooperation. To further boost ties, the Vietnam Trade Office in Belgium and the EU plans large-scale promotion activities. The 'Vietnam International Sourcing' program, set for September, will link global supply chains and invite Belgian and European companies to explore partnerships in Vietnam.
Vietnam’s push to deepen trade and investment with Belgium and the EU is gaining momentum. Upcoming events, including green economy forums and sourcing programs, aim to create stronger business links. Officials expect these efforts to help Vietnamese enterprises make the most of the EVFTA before the EU signs further trade deals.
