Krasnodar battles historic flooding as May rainfall shatters 50-year records

Krasnodar is facing its wettest May in at least 50 years, with heavy rain causing widespread flooding. Overnight downpours added 31 mm of rain—nearly half the usual monthly total—pushing authorities to take urgent action across the city. Since early May, the city has recorded 161 mm of rain, more than double the expected amount. The extreme weather has led to 38 emergency calls from residents in the last 24 hours alone.

In response, municipal crews are working to clear fallen trees from roads and courtyards. Pump trucks have been deployed to multiple areas, including Aksayskaya Street, Musorgsky Street, and the Novoznamensky microdistrict. Other affected locations include 1st Krup-skaya Lane, Yagodin Street, Koltsovoy Proezd, Ulanskaya Street, Lenin Farmstead, and Plastunskaya Street. Residents needing assistance can call 112 for emergencies. For stormwater pumping requests, the numbers 8 (861) 214-33-36 and 050 are available.

The city continues to monitor the situation as rainfall remains far above average. With 248% of the usual May precipitation already recorded, authorities are prioritising safety and drainage efforts to prevent further disruptions.
