Devils sign top prospect Anton Silayev to entry-level NHL deal
The New Jersey Devils are set to sign defenseman Anton Silayev to an entry-level contract. Drafted 10th overall in 2024, he will likely be the last top-15 pick from his class to ink an NHL deal. The young Russian has spent years developing in the Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod system, earning recognition as one of the KHL’s top prospects. Silayev first made an impact in the 2022-23 season, recording eight points in 41 games for Torpedo’s junior team in the MHL. His contributions helped secure a league championship that year.
The following season, he broke into the KHL and quickly stood out. By the end of 2023-24, he had set records for points by an under-18 player, points by an under-19 defenseman, and games played by an under-18 defenseman. He also became Torpedo’s youngest-ever goal scorer and was named KHL Rookie of the Month in September. His physical play was equally notable, leading the team with 98 hits and earning a nomination for KHL Rookie of the Year. In 2024-25, Silayev added 12 points in 63 KHL games while also helping Torpedo’s minor-league affiliate win the VHL playoff title. His progress has caught the attention of the Devils, who see potential in his two-way game. Though still developing, Silayev is expected to compete for a spot in the Devils’ organisation by the 2026-27 season. He could feature in training camp or begin his North American career in the AHL.
Silayev’s signing will complete the Devils’ 2024 first-round draft class under contract. His arrival adds depth to the team’s defensive pipeline, with his KHL experience and championship pedigree offering a strong foundation. The organisation will monitor his development closely as he transitions to North American hockey.
