Komplex AI system slashes aircraft design time by 11x in breakthrough test
A new AI-powered system called Komplex is set to transform aircraft design by cutting development time and boosting efficiency. Sberbank has joined forces with major aerospace and tech partners to develop the technology, which automates key engineering tasks while meeting strict industry regulations. The Komplex project was revealed at the CIPR 2026 conference, backed by Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade. It brings together Sberbank, United Aircraft Corporation, TopSystems, and the AIRI Institute in a collaborative effort.
Komplex is a hardware-software platform that integrates artificial intelligence into computer-aided design. Early tests have already demonstrated its potential, with an elevenfold speed increase in workflows for standard aircraft structures. The system has successfully generated a rib design for a training aircraft’s detachable wing box, proving its practical application. Beyond speed, the technology aims to enhance the quality of engineered components. It automatically produces technical specifications for structural parts while ensuring full compliance with aviation regulations. This reduces manual work and minimises errors in the design process.
The system’s success in aerospace could lead to wider industrial use in the future. For now, its focus remains on streamlining aircraft development, offering faster and more reliable design solutions. The project marks a significant step in applying AI to complex engineering challenges.
