Astana Moves Some Second-Shift Students to Remote Learning

Some students attending afternoon classes in Astana have been switched to remote learning, the city administration announced, as reported by our website.

"Due to worsening weather conditions, students in grades 0–4 attending the second shift will be moved to remote learning on January 12," the statement from the city administration reads.

Earlier, we reported that Kazakhstan is bracing for temperatures as low as –38°C (–36°F).

The cold snap will first hit the northern regions before spreading east and across the rest of the country. Despite the persistent freezing conditions, a rapidly shifting anticyclone will bring stronger winds.

In the northern half of Kazakhstan, gusts in some areas are expected to reach 28 meters per second.
