Yekaterinburg braces for near-record freezing temperatures this week

Temperatures will plunge as early as Tuesday, dropping from -10°C to -18°C during the day. By Wednesday night, Yekaterinburg will see a bitter low of -29°C, with relief arriving only on Saturday, when daytime highs settle at a still-chilly -12°C to -10°C.

Skies will remain partly cloudy throughout the week, though no snow is expected.

Last month, the region shattered a 47-year cold record when thermometers in the northern part of Sverdlovsk Oblast hit -43.9°C—the lowest since 1978.
