Kazakhstan and Spain Forge Stronger Agricultural Trade and Investment Ties

Kazakhstan and Spain have held high-level talks to strengthen agricultural ties. During a meeting in Paris, the two countries explored new trade opportunities and joint projects. Both sides aim to boost cooperation in farming, food production, and livestock development.

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture, Aydarbek Saparbekov, met with Spain’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, to discuss expanding bilateral trade. The talks focused on increasing exports of Kazakh grains, oilseeds, processed foods, and animal feed to Spain.

In 2025, Kazakhstan’s agricultural exports to Spain had already doubled, with grain, legumes, and essential oils leading the growth. The ministers reviewed ways to build on this momentum, including cooperation in agritech, irrigation, food processing, and veterinary medicine. A major project under discussion is a €132 million vertically integrated meat production complex in Kazakhstan’s Akmola Region. Developed with Big Farm LLP, the facility will raise 20,000 Angus cattle and create 250 jobs. Kazakhstan also expressed readiness to work with Spanish firms on livestock breeding, genetic selection, and other agricultural innovations. Spain’s minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening ties with Kazakhstan. Both sides agreed to explore further measures for expanding trade in agricultural and agribusiness products.

The meeting highlighted concrete steps to strengthen agricultural trade between Kazakhstan and Spain. With plans for a major meat production complex and increased exports, the partnership aims to bring economic benefits to both nations. The discussions also set the stage for future collaboration in farming technology and food processing.
